The WAXFINZ - 08/04/17

BANDS

The [Y] Project focuses on making a change for the better by bringing people together to support local music and art - spreading awareness as to what is truly going on in the world around us. We have been given the opportunity to showcase the fantastic vibes Newcastle (and other nearby regions) have to offer by spreading the word about Social Justice efforts happening within our community.

From solo artists to locally recognised bands, The [Y] Project Gigs have welcomed many performers to the stage - and hopefully many more in the future!

Archive Band Descriptions:

Looseleaf IV is a recently formed high school band from Newcastle producing some groovy original and self-recorded tunes. Since the beginning of 2017 they’ve released two singles and music videos, ‘Worth It’ and ‘M.I.A’, and will be releasing more independent tracks throughout the year.

The Waxfinz originate from the Central Coast music scene and explode their audience’s minds with their killer tunes. The Waxies are a bunch of boys that produce the sweetest of sounds and have been known for sidelining/supporting DZ Deathrays. These boys are busy with gigs up to their necks, so catch them if you can.

Riley Fisher played his first gig at The [Y] Project’s ‘Fundraiser Gig #1’ and truly shocked his audiences with his talent and acoustic guitar playing skill. Known as ‘The Fish’, he knows how to get the attention with his raw talent and charming personality.

Regina Kamada ft. Botor Brothers - Accompanied by the Botor Brothers, Regina Kamada’s exceptional performance immersed her audience with her beauty and exquisite voice, leaving everyone in the crowd in awe about her unique switch up of song choices. The aspiring artist has performed on many occasions, often being considered as the face of Newcastle’s talent.

Cherry Stain is a five-piece band bursting onto the streets of Newcastle with riffs and rhymes that will stain your brain. This atmospheric funk rap mixed with smooth reggae pushes you to the dance floor. After forming as a band in early July 2016 and adding, swapping members Cherry Stain are now working on their EP - Two hours in the Desert.

Ryan Mahony Music -  Ryan Mahony (vocals, guitar) Cooper Smyth (lead guitar), Charlie Ross (bass), Jakobi Stegh (synth) and Andy Scott (drums) together and you have your new favourite soundtrack to your sweet summer sunday sesh. This joint-band one off occasion gig will certainly be having you slipping on them blue suedes and breaking a leg. We're talking smooth synth leads, lots of capos, heavy bass, chorus guitar, you name it. If Mac Demarco, Sticky Fingers, Dune Rats and Skegss ever had a baby, this would be it in music form.

Balanced Breakfast is comprised of a "dropkick, a big rig, Chris and a manlet that play instruments and make music and stuff". To put it simply, they like to think they sound like what a good bowl of cornflakes tastes like.

Throw Me to the Wolves are a five piece female-fronted indie guitar band from Newcastle. At the tender ages of 14-19, the band have already received triple j AirPlay, appeared on TV and had their music featured in a commercial for fashion icon Sportsgirl. Comparisons to bands like San Cisco and The Jungle Giants were apparent across their first Ep and following few singles, but in 2017 Throw Me To The Wolves have really come into their own, borrowing stylistic elements from genres as broad as post hardcore, math rock, shoegaze, dream pop and emo, to create their own unique brand of indie rock!

Sister Rosicky - Hailing from Newcastle, Sister Rosicky are kind of like that weird guy who's nice enough, but you can never tell if they're being serious or not. Influences include Pink Floyd, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Black Sabbath, Radiohead, The Kinks, Queen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Bowie, The Doors, Primus, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Beatles and The Stranglers
